I Am Pleased...mostly

My schedule this semester:

Monday:       Nothing

Tuesday:      Show up and sit there from 11-12 for the class I am TA-ing

Wednesday:  Nothing

Thursday:     Show up and sit there from 11-12 for the class I am TA-ing

12:30-3:15 elective I am taking on public policy which should hopefully be entertaining
4:15-7 painful stats class that I am forced to take after previous class got canceled

Friday:          Nothing

Assuming my brain is still functioning for the stats class, I think everything will be OK (more than OK, since I have 3.5 days off)

Worst play in poker

Image006sy9

<h/t to E for the picture>

It seems recently I have run into more glass tappers than I ever have before in playing.  It doesn't matter if it's live or online, people are tapping (or more like smashing with those emergency glass breaker things).

A few days ago online someone actually started trying to teach.  It got so bad that I asked them what the heck they were doing and the guys said: "I want him to play better."

Do you realize how idiotic this is?  How the heck is anyone supposed to make any money based on skillful play if the idiot at the table suddenly stops being so much of an idiot.  This is poker 101; you make money based on others' mistakes.

Alternately, please don't make fish at the table feel unwelcome.  Putting someone on tilt as part of your game is one thing, but when you do it so much they leave the game, your hands are in my wallet.  Please get them out.

Rufus Wainwright c/o Leonard Cohen

I've heard there was a secret chord

That David played, and it pleased the Lord

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this

The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof

You saw her bathing on the roof

Her beauty

in the moonlight

overthrew you

She tied you

To a kitchen chair

She broke your throne,

she cut your hair

And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe I've been here before

I know this room, I've walked this floor

I used to live alone before I knew you

I've seen your flag on the marble arch

love is not a victory march

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you'd let me know

What's real and going on below

But now you never show it to me do you?

Remember when I moved in you?

The holy dark was moving too

And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above

And all I ever learned from love

Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you

It's not a cry you can hear at night

It's not somebody who's seen the light

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Vegas book?

Anyone have any recommendations of a book detailing the history of Vegas? I've read several good ones on London and I'm looking for the same kind of thing.

Today's Annoyance

People who do not offer full feed RSS feeds for their blogs.

If you have a blog and only offer a one-sentence snippet (or worse yet, nothing at all) through RSS, I will stop reading your blog.  I just don't have time to sift through all the blogs I read using anything other than google reader.  I'm not going to click through.

So, if you have a blog and you care about people reading it...you might want to change your settings.

Anyone know of any women's charities?

I'm finally getting rid of some of the suits in my closet that I haven't worn in almost three years and am looking to pass them on to a group that helps women who are struggling get jobs. I knew of a group like this in NY. Anyone know of anything like this in DC metro?

Shout out to Truckin'

Long ago, I used to be a prolific short story writer.  I even won an award or two for some of my stories.  It's something I would like to get back into, but between school, and catching my breath from school, I don't have the time.  I do really look forward to each installment of Truckin, though.  I found Pauly through his poker writing, but reading these short stories are worth your while too, and largely devoid of poker content for those who have no idea what I'm talking about when I write things like: "Playing TPOC like it's the nuts is not +EV."
